So every now and then i like to get on my soap box.....
my theory on our belief systems.
my belief: humans though not rational, have the strongest craving to validate a reality. in other words, we would rather have the 'truth' than be happy believing what we want. we go so far as to call people who choose to believe what they want to be crazy or dreamers or whatever.
with over 6 billion people in the world, rejection is the most common feeling we face in work, relationships, whatever. think of all the people who play soccer in the world. how many of them will ever play in a world cup? that's a lot of dreams killed.
so what do most people do? we take this abundant resource and build our belief system around it. 1000 women reject you so that must mean you're worthless, etc. it's a lazy response.
it's like saying, well all i can find are these damn crooked logs, so i will build my cabin with these rather than continuing to look for the log that is suitable to build with. in reality, we don't have to build anything if we don't have the right resources.
if we are addicted to just validation, we reject believing something better for ourselves because we can 'prove' the opposite so easily. we completely disregard that that proof is the lowest hanging fruit.
on the flip side, you hold a belief that you are God's gift to women for example. that's a tougher thing to prove because success is not a common occurrence. you can't validate that thought all the time even if you are really good with women.
my solution: recognize that the truth doesn't make us happy. the gratification of validating a thought is really a distant second place to feeling good. if the end game in life is to enjoy it (build a functional cabin) then that's all we should be focusing on.
