Try finding something You like rather than something that pays well. If You manage to combine those two, then consider Yourself lucky.

What you can do is read some business magazines and get a feeling for what it is like to work in business, then go out with that mindset and look through business-eyes at every place that yoiu go. Go to a restuarant, pay attention to what the chef does. Go to art and motor exhibition, check out what the people who work there are like, quiz them etc. You have to get the appetite, then go out there and descover through your own research what it is that you would like to do.

Just get out there and work as many low end - entry level jobs as possible. By doing this you'll KNOW that you need proper education do to what you WANT, as so you don't get stuck in one of those jobs.

That's called learning the hard way.

Nothing, it's often the only way.

I didn't say it's the wrong way. I said it's the hard way. It's never pleasant to see yourself doing something you hate because you don't have much choice at that particular stage of your life. It can actually go both ways, one can provide you with a good kick in your ass which will make you do something about it and improve your life. The other can just make you lose yourself altogether.

my job is being a lazy no good bum. its not easy wasting decade after decade. promotion comes by way of mental illnesses, im doing quite well in these respects. but not quite crazy enough.
actually not kidding.
starting out can be tough but its part of the experience, what aspects interest you?
what would you like to be doing in 5 years time? or rather what stage?
i wish you luck.

Careers,
So much potential eh?
I too am looking for a career. It may have politics in there somewhere. It may have seas and water in there somewhere.
I was wondering a few times recently, about a boat and sailing across the world, or around or something, perhaps pole to pole.
Having had a little taster of boats and the sea it really opened my eyes to how big the water is out there, I mean I knew it was big..but.. well, find a globe- a real globe not just a map and turn it around. Big water.
I reckon it`d cost probably over a million pounds on a very rough first estimate.
Having said taht I have seen a boat taht a guy sailed teh world in at the science museum in London.. oh my.. it looked like some submariners version of the old citroens..you know the one "designed to be able to carry a crate of eggs across a muddy field on the back seat without breaking them"..I doubt taht boat even cost taht much at all.. ovcourse it`s not as sexy as the bigger boats.
Man, I really admire that woman who sailed the world what was her name now? It wasn`t taht long ago, shes English, damn I forgot her name, anyone?

Around Britain.. Impressive.

Wow.
Finding where I could stay and work on a boat like that for a bit might be cool. Ovcourse it probably looks a lot more romantic than it is, it`s probably hard and trying and theres no escape if people get on your nerves.. unless you kill them and toss them overboard..or they to you..
Hmm.
Aha.. "Dame Ellen MacArthur"
