Although we all have our thoughts and opinion on other cities/countries (based on TV, books etc) you dont really know what its like until you've been there.

So lets give some stereotype vs. reality differences on various cities/countries throughout the world.

I think that on alot of American TV, the British are shown as posh, snobbish people when the majority aren't like that at all. The stereotypical American would be fat with a Big Mac in their hand all the time (jk) :D

In Finland we believe that most of Swedish men are gay. It's true.

For Chicago the stereotype seems to be a city overrun by mobsters, thieves and bad guys. That was true in the past, 1920's and 30's.

Now thiose people are called politicians.

Honestly, what are your ideas of what my fair city is like?

Aren't many of the big cities in the US a bit the same? Or has each one her own unique character?

Windy.

Au Contraire!!!

On average, Chicago has LESS wind than Cleveland, OH.

It's the "Windy" City because of all the hot air blown around by it's politicians.

Yeah, but Cleveland, Ohio doesn't quite share the same fame as Chi-carrrrrr-go.

You gotta love those Chicago gangsters though. A welcome relief from the coverage NYC mafioso get.

And it wasn't just the 20's and 30's, just as New York's gangsters have operated in one form or another right up until 20 or so years ago.

Good points. There are still small remnats of the Chicago Mob still around.

It's a better place than NYC or LA, in my opinion. (I'm a bit biased). The other 2 are just too big. Chicago, while a big city, has a small city feel to it. You can get from point A to B without it taking half of your day.

Damn it was cool in NYC when I went to Little Italy, into a small café for some excellent espresso... those old mafioso-lookalikes sitting in dark corner tables... I was hoping for some Italian "goodfella" to come over to me and ask "wanna earn some green?" Never happened. Damn. :x

Dunno. When I was in Manhattan a few months ago I could get from point A to point B by foot no problem. I walked from 25th street to 111th street and back, then on a separate day, from 31st street to Battery park then back. Was fun looking at the things on the way and didn't feel like much of a trip because of that fact.

L.A.'s very sprawled out, disconnected. But it has its plus points. That said, I prefer NYC.

Yeah, we took a trip to Little Italy via Chinatown (which, btw, is basically CHINA. Most signs are in Chinese/Cantonese and 99% of the people walking around...the same. Was pretty cool seeing the harsh difference in the space of just a few blocks.)

Mulberry street was cool, in the heart of Little Italy. I got to visit a fair few locations used in my fave New York movies. :)

Yeah, Chinatown was cool too, I spent many hours there. Went to this shopping mall and looked around for a while, until I got this weird "out of place" -feeling. Everything in that mall was in chinese, and suddenly I noticed I'm the only one who's not chinese in there. There was quite a bit staring happening because I look quite weird even in New York, people this white really aren't lurking in every street corner, not even in Finland. My visit to Little Italy was quite short, I only wanted to taste some Italian espresso in "mafia" surroundings... I will go there again some day with time to visit all those mafia movie scenes You mentioned... I love those movies too.
