I need some advice from people that know alot about computers. Which computer do you think is the better buy?
http://www.apple.com/ibook/
http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_9300?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=i6000S2&s=dhs
I want to use it for college, the wireless internet, writing, organizing music, watching DvDs, and playing some games (not many, I am not a huge gamer).

Go figure...the only link that works for me is the Apple site.
I'd go with the iBook. That's just me. I'm a bit biased. Where are you getting your software from? If you have the PC version then buying a Mac may not be such a great idea. If you are buying all your software new, I think you'll like the way the iBook works. You could spend a little more and get the PowerBook. That's what I have and I couldn't be happier.
Most of the world is PC based so that may play into your decision as well. I'm sure cost is a concern too. The PC will probably be more economical.
Good luck making a choice. :P

What Atree said with the software thing. PC stuff is easier to come by (from a retail point of view, of course - the local corner shop sells PC stuff).
Ask your mates what they've got.

What ar eyou going to Major in? A lot of english departments and riting intensive places want you to have an Apple.
More math things want you to have stuff like PCs.
Let your major be your guide.

Can colleges really force you to have a certain kind of laptop?
I am not sure what I want to major in yet, but I do know that I do not like math, at all. I am more into reading, writing, and music.

don't get the apple one, mac's are crap anyone that knows about hardware will tell you, i'd wait a little because the new centreno is coming out and it will force all laptops at the moment down, but for sure buy a pc laptop because you can easily get all your programs for free and any thing for free for that matter i can tell where as well
anyone that recommends macintosh are retarded they don't know a thing about hardware or computers.

Whats so good about this new "centrino" buddy? And when does it come out? :D
pastaboy
11th June 2005, 03:22 PM
i don't know too much about laptops and centrino but i think the new one has better wireless features and i good site for illegal program downloads is http://www.phazeddl.com/ only go there if your accountable for your own actions, don't blame me if some goes wrong
Bobo

I don't know what's new in the next Centrino generation, but at least the first one is quite good: fast'n powerful with low power consumption and don't heat up much compared to other laptop CPU:s.

PCs are better. Macs are gross. Our university had macs and it was hell using them. Theres more software for PCs. I think they take up more than 2/3 of the market. Just go with the flow.

Fairly sure it's actually like 72/28 in favor of PC's. If you don't know much about computers, get a PC. If you do run into a problem, you can find a crapton of people who know how to work on a PC. If you get something fucked with an Apple product, well, I hope you have a close personal friend who works on them because you will get reamed.

Really? I guess I'm just a stupid fucktard.
Let's compare...
My Mac
NO virus problems
Software? I can and do use ALL of the Microsoft Office products, Adobe CS Suite, Filemaker. I'll grant you there are more software titles for the PC. Most of them really not worth much. If you use your machine for playing games, yes the PC will win the software title everytime. That's a pretty expensive toy though. I use my Mac to be productive.
I do see the virtues of owning a PC. I actually have 2 on my home network. Others in my home like them. That's fine. I prefer my Apple. It's easier to maintain and keep running smoothly than my Win Moblies.
Really, Pastaboy, do some real research before making a blanket statement about the differences between the two. I know plenty of PC IT guys who will vouch for the stabiilty and ease of use of a Mac over a PC. To say that someone who recommends a Mac is some how less than intelligent is just plain ignorant.

mate whats your problem you know that pc's are 100 times better
macs are only around because microsoft has too have compentition. macs are all style and no substance. you can upgrade your pc, there are plenty of more arguments that i have but i can't be f$#%^d typing them in.
the only credible argument that mac lovers have :is theres no viruses on macs, that is it.

Pastaboy, you are a fool.
Mac's wipe the floor with PC's when it comes to heavy image and video editing. They're the superior choice. They aren't universally crap or out-performed by PC's - Which is why they're the number one choice in the design industry.
Valk
13th June 2005, 01:18 PM
They're pretty popular in the Music Industry too.

Bobo, what kind of laptop do you own?
Bobo
22nd July 2005, 02:42 PM
At the moment, none. I had a PC laptop with Pentium M (Centrino) processor, bought it about one year back, but I gave it to my ex-wife. I have one from work I use daily, but it's something older... but good enough for my reports and stuff, a PC it is.
