first off, i don't really know where that term comes from, except that it means 'you're fucked no matter what you do':shrugs:
second, upon hearing that in NY, a Walmart employee, up at 4 am probably at minimum wage, was trampled and died on the day after Thanksgiving when the doors opened, and people were so obsessed with shopping that they were angry that they had to leave because a person died and they had to do an investigation....really irked me for the past few days. since when did getting a Wii eclipse a man's life who is presumably innocent at this point.
the fabric of what America should stand for is what this whole Obama campaign was about. The "idea" of America had to be rejuvinated. However, as much as people want people to change things "for" them, it's clear that in these tough times, we fall to our most instictual desire for self preservation and to do the minimal work required, even in light of "CNN Hereos" airing just hours before this incident...ofcourse none of those a-holes saw it because they were in line at Walmart probably.
The sick part is that for the US economy and world economy to work, we have to spend like the unfulfilled lemmings we are. our lack of savings is a condemnation of our economic intelligence. if we saved more and spent less, we'd be fulfilling our personal financial balance and retirement...however, if we don't desperately need cool shit....the economy sputters and we affect everyone in the long run. i dunno. it's sad knowing that our weakness for bling is what drives prosperity because it also drives insecurity about keeping up with next financial bracket above you, it drives crime, and it also keeps us from giving a little of our good fortune to the poor other than Christmas and Thanksgiving. I saw the Hereos show. i realize that i can do more if i really wanted to, but damn it i want an iPhone. the truth is that our desire to do both is what drives our world. your thoughts?
