so, ive wondered this for years- and actually heard other things about it.
THE WORLD:
now, i hear how point A to point B in certain countries are 200km or 1thousand ect miles-- i think to myself WTF? cos... uk isnt like that- like its only a few hundred miles from top to bottom im sure, so those distances would mean that its like 5-10x the length of the UK, however on maps ive seen this just doesnt add up.
am i missing something here or are the maps tweaked disproportionally?
i once heard that the uk and other countries were madde larger and other countries made smaller to make some look more important and ohers less so.
so what gives? is this true?
can i even trust a earth photo from space for its correct geographical proportioning?

I should think all countries will be in proportion with eachother on maps. It depends what points you're on about i suppose. Australias about 5 times as wide as the UK if a recall correctly (despite the map making it look like more)so its quite possible these statements are true. Or, you may have misheard/misinterpretted. Who knows?

It's impossible to make an accurate flat map of a round planet, that's why world maps are always a bit distorted. Other thing is the fact that earth isn't flat, there are uphills and downhills... and in mountain areas the distance a car must travel from one point to another is alot longer than it looks on the map.

Hows the room up there in the UK SS? I know in the USA we got a ton of room and it seems in some places we are just cram packed. I cant imagine how its like in the UK.

Its the same. Some places are packes such as London but we have protected sites. Its hard to get planning permission to build anywhere anymore.

In the UK places tend to be close together so there isn't really a perception of travelling. In Aus and SA places are far apart and it can take hours to get from place to place. Also routes can be round about so youre not always travelling in a straight line from place to place. Also in the UK and Europe you have slick transport systems. Be ready for a shock when you leave your shores. Things don't always work the same. And sometimes technology isn't available, like computer systems, cellular connectivity etc etc.

there is no way in hell that the UK is a few hundred kms from top to bottom. I estimate it to be at least 1000kms but not much more.
