For those of you who don't know, I am going to be joining the navy sometime soon. I took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB, today. When I took the pretest, to see if I even qualified for them to be talking to me, I scored in the 74th percentile. Not that great, but hey, I didn't study and I had no idea I was going to be taking the test.
The recruiter told me "You are in the above average range, you have a lot of choices."
I took the official test today and I scored in the 90th percentile. My only problem was the Automotive section, I know jack shit about cars. Every where else I scored very high on.
I qualified for the jobs that I wanted. To get into intelligence I had to score a 104 combined on the Arithmetic Reasoning and Language skills. I scored a 122. My recruiter even talked to me about becoming a "Spook" or Cryptologic Technician - Interperative because I scored high on a random test that no one even told me about. I had to look a a set of names and numbers, a single name correlating to a single number (ie Ram 1093) then they would give me a list of the words in one column, and in the next four columns there was a random collection of numbers. I had to find the number that went with the word and hit a corresponding letter. (A, B, C, D, E).
I hope that made sense because I am not sure what the hell I did.
And, after the test I walked outside and saw a girl that was in the testing room with me. I looked at her and decided she was about a 6.5 on the hotness scale with potential to go up to a 7. (She looked like she threw on clothes and no make up before taking the test.) I spoke to her and decided to get her number. If I can I am going to atleast get head from her.
So all in all I had a pretty good day.

Say it with me: "FUCK THE NAVY!" Are you insane?! Why would you want to join the navy? Are you eager to get blown to pieces? Fuck all that shit! There are better carreers and more peacefull lives you can live. Plus you won't be seeing a lot of pussy if you choose that carreer.

I think its concern in your words Endorphin, perhaps mania. To be honest I have heard it all. The Navy is not the US Army, and a long way from the Marines. The chances of me seeing combat are pretty low. The last time a US Navy ship was under attack was 2000 the USS Cole, it was a terrorist attack.
What I want to do in the Navy could potentially earn me a lot of money in the civilian world.

You can think of the Navy or any military career like going to school again. There are so many paths you can take, and so many things you can learn that can eventually be put into the real world if you decide to leave. Do you plan on staying in the Navy as a lifetime career? Or just to learn some new trades and then move on?

You know I am not sure yet if I want to make it a career. I would only do that if I to be an Officer. They did talk to me about that, saying that my scores were good and that I just needed to finish college and get accepted into the Seaman to Admiral Program.

You should have told me before, I could make you become a professional automobile mechanic through CC.
J/K, I just know a great deal about cars. It's my passion.

Tiger, i wish you a lot of success in the navy. As far as I know (at least in the Armada Espaņola) if vehicles arent your main asset, you can specialise in another field such as Intel.
I also want to post this link (http://forsvar.fileflat.com/english/). It's a public test for the Swedish Army. I know you may be tired of tests, but this at least has a great ambientation. Knowing you and your results, i know you can beat it. I took it once and scored about 8 or 9 points above average.

Seems to be some hostility towards the military in here. :? Good luck bro, Air Force here. I got a 76 on my ASVAB and was eligible for just about any job I wanted, so you should be fine. It's been the best decision I've made thus far, crosstraining to become a Flight Engineer though.

I got sworn in today and they were all out of Intelligence Specialist jobs until December. BUT a Nuclear technician did contact me and he was like "Your scores have you automatically qualified you for the Nuclear program. I would like you to seriously consider this job. No pressure."
He gave me his number so right now I am looking into doing that.
I also had my physical today and it sucked. A grown man touched my balls, I am never cool with that. BUT they had to find out if I had two balls or not. I guess they used to take people's word on it, but a few folks must have lied.

Nothing says humiliation like doing the duck walk in your underwear in a room full of other guys. Even better, spreading your cheeks for some old man while he fondles your goodies. :puke: I hope you're not "shy" about showering with other men, not like the showers will last long anyways, but still. It was a first for me.

Endo, no offence mate but, you seem to have a very narrow minded view of the military. Whilst you are perfectly entitled to your own opinion on the subject, I take issue with your last post. The guy hasnt even started his service yet and you're already planning his funeral. Give me a break.
I'd like to know upon what basis you are making these comments. Do you have any experience of the military lifestyle? I could be wrong but, from your comments so far, I very much doubt it. :neut:

Endo, buddy, first and foremost that's some cold shit. There is no need for that. Seriously. Also, K-man brings up some good questions. Do you have family that was jerked around by the military? That was hurt? Did a guy in uniform beat you up? I hope that you lighten up and bring it down a notch because what you said was out of line. Especially about the song. That was just ignorant.
K-Man and JaredK are both right, I am doing this to give myself opportunities and job training that I can't get else where. I can make bank in a few years.

Military recruit training is fucking tough, for the army it is anyway, for the navy i dont know im sure you can enlighten me, but if its anything like what i had to do then i applaud you mate. As long as you condition your mind along with your body, you will be fine i'm sure. So tell me, what DOES the recruit training involve, if there is such thing as recruit training in the Navy.
By the way, i think Endo was just making a joke, although it does seem kind of cold. Im sure he didn't mean any harm in his words.

You mean how hard in Navy Boot Camp? I heard it was like in the middle, not as hard as the Marines or Army, but harder than the Coast Guard and Air Force.
Then again I haven't gone through it yet. But I read this Navy Basic Training (http://usmilitary.about.com/od/navyjoin/l/aanavybasic1.htm). Swimming sounds like the hardest part but I can swim so it shouldn't be a problem.

Before CC explodes: my last post was a joke.
About the military: I think nowadays there are a million better choices. If you are entering the military to do a job that has nothing to do with war why enter the military anyway? You can do the job on the outside. Private sector, earn more and won't have to waste time with useless military training that you will never use.
It's your choice. I simply think it's dumb. But whatever man, If you are pro peace I've got nothing against you. I just don't like the blood thirty sort of military that is so common...
edit: to answer TP, no. No one in my family or myself were hurt by military. But it pains me to see that the army grunts are so brainwashed that they will fight any war their president wants them to. And I'm not just referring to the American Army, I'm talking about pretty much any army in the world. It's just sad...

Where's the facepalm smiley when you need it. It's kinda hard not to try and throw a fit when ignorance abounds. Better choices? Last I checked the economy sucked, our jobs are going to other countries and getting a degree seems to be all too common. I joined the military for college money, to get away from home, and to learn a good trade. With the job I currently have now I could get out and work for the government making $80k a year. I hate this job, I don't plan on doing it on the outside. I'm crosstraining (getting a new job) as a Flight Engineer. Which is essentially an enlisted pilot. The military will teach you a lot, a lot that you can't learn in a classroom. Why do you think so many companies prefer ex-military? Ever see how many huge companies are run by ex-military? Not everyone joins the military as their last resort. I've known computer programmers, guys who worked in big time companies, join the Marines as Infantrymen. Why? Because they wanted to see what it was like, and they love it. They love the adrenaline rush, they love seeing the world. It's all about the men next to you. Most in the military don't care about the politics behind it, it's a job and they have to do it. It's about those you serve with, those are the people that matter, not the guys in the Whitehouse. We're not blood thirsty, we're not robots, we're people just like you. Just because we signed up doesn't mean we're stupid. I think it's really smart to join the military, you have any idea how many benefits you get out of it? I'm 21, I've been to Korea and now living in Japan. I live in my own house getting paid a little over $4000 a month. I don't have to worry about a damn thing. I'm starting my degree this September, again, not going to worry about paying that, just have to worry about passing. In my next job I'll be flying around the world, getting paid for going into Hostile areas, getting paid for housing and food, and getting TDY (Temporary Duty Assignment) pay everytime I fly. Not only that, but I'll get flight pay as well, all while still going to school. The info I learn from becoming a Flight Engineer will give me "flight hours" which I can apply to being a pilot in the civilian world. I myself don't really see myself being a pilot, but it's very useful. The last school I went to for my job I was in 2 schools for a year. We were told that the year we went to school, was essentially 3 years worth of college condensed into that year. It sure felt like it, so please, spare me your "there's better things to do". I joined, loved it and I'm doing more than most people do in the civilian world. Tiger, good luck man, you won't regret it.

If it was a joke bro, then don't worry about it. Just water under the bridge. :D.
Also, what I want to do with my life is be an Intelligence Analyst. In all honesty Endo, where could I get training to do that in the civilian world. No, I'm serious. If you know a place tell me about it and I will check it out.
Also, like I said, I am joining the Navy. Not the Army or the Marines. To see ground combat I would have to be a Medic, Navy SEAL, an EOD or something like that. I will be either on a Carrier or on a Sub, depending on what I choose. They don't need Navy Intel guys in Iraq. I know Army Intel guys who are still stateside. I know Marines who are stationed in Germany doing nothing besides standing guard and drinking. Not that I expect to do that (I don't want to do that anyway I could drink and stand around at home).
What always confuses me is the idea that everyone in the military is exactly the same. Not every one of anything (Race, age, gender, profession, nationality etc...) is the same. Thats life, and thats people.

Exactly. That's what makes them stupid grunts that will do as told without even blinking. Then they loose a leg and suddenly the government is the bad guys...It's the same movie over and over. As long as they're not hurt they will kill whomever they're told without regret.

So let me get this...you worry about lacking the money to pay your bills but you don't worry about going to hostile areas where you can get blown to pieces? Wow man, that just smart!:lol::lol:
T_P, if you want to be an Intelligence Analyst then I guess the military is the only place. Seems like an incredibly boring job to me but everyone has different tastes...
Also I didn't say everyone in the military is the same. But there's no lack of the blood thirsty type.

Can I ask you Endo, how many guys in the military do you know? Because I am not sure where you get the idea that there is an abundance of blood thirsty people.
I have had family and friends in the military and none of them were "blood thirsty" most of them told me "If you do [Enlist in the Military] make sure you have all of your ducks in a row and do what you want to do."
If fact I have read a few books about the subject and some of the most stereotyped (US Marines Infantry/Snipers) guys acted in the way you would not expect.

i don't know much about the u.s. army, i can only speak of my own experience in the israeli army (i was in the urban specialized infantry) and it can make or break you. as long as you're there to learn a new trade and you don't go into combat i think you'll do just fine, but try to stay as far away from danger as you can. i met friends for life in the army but i also lost friends in the army, so do yourself a favor and stay out of harms way.
we had a saying where i served (the whole place where i was stationed is beautiful)- " if there's a heaven this is what it looks like, and if there's a hell this is what it feels like".
what i'm trying to say is this- take the best out of this experience and try not to let it change you to the worse.
