Awesome strategist, got too caught up in the "operations" stuff.

He probably could've routed Tokugawa if he didn't alienate the other Daimyo.

I'm visiting his statue in Aichi prefecture when I go to Japan.

Luckily Tokugawa ultimately won because without that Japan would be totally different than it is today. But, the war strategy was absolute crap, the west had THE BEST tactical advantage, but Tokugawa caused many to not get involved... with mostly empty promises lol.

The Samurai class needed to go away and feudalism needed to stop eventually. So thank for that.

Japan still has a daft honour system though...suicide is through the roof there!

It's actually due to the "giri" dynamic, basically a work based caste system. The suicide rate comes from the unfulfilling life of working yourself damn near to death. There's even a word for death by over work.

The honor system that the samurai go into is that death comes before dishonor. It's better to kill oneself than to be defeated in battle, honorable deah supposedly brought a better afterlife.

If I ever get around to taking over the world, I will definitely court Japan as an one of my allies. They're not finished as a military power, they're just taking a break.

If America wants to fulfill its world governent ambitions it would most definately forge coalition with Japan. Because we know that by history Japan wanted to take over the entire Asia.
