So what all are you doing for lent, if you participate.
Me
1. PE everyday
2. Workout everyday
3. No masterbation (sex is fair game :cool )
4. Put in an extra hour of studying from 9-10 every night uninterrupted (no TV no computer)
5. Drink one gallon of water a day.

Yes all the way till Easter 40 days baby to make my life a little bit better than it already is.
It is suggested to drink at least a gallon a day as it keeps you flushed and hydrated. Your body functions best when properly hydrated. You only run into problems when your intake is 3+ gallons a day and your electrolyte levels become so diluted your body can't function. It is also a more prevalent problem in ladies especially distance runners.

it's not starving it's the balance of food you are taking.... Some don't eat meat during lent, some don't eat products based on sunflower oil, or anything red....or even in the final days of the Easter Lent they don't drink water ( I agree a bit too extreme)... But in general Lent is good for your body esspecially as it cleans it's self from the different poisons we've taken with the food we eat daily...
Some think of Lent as a purification of the soul...so celibacy is on the menu then... It all depends on you...what are your purposes for lenting...
Me personaly use the occasion to clean my body from all that nasty food and all I eat is vegetable products, drink lot's of water, eat lot's of fish, sea food, pasta... And trust me I never starve...

Oh, ok... so one is allowed to eat healthy food? Not eating at all would have been crazy and dangerous. So, basically it's a purification thingy and not so much religious?

Well right now I am not eating a lot of meat but taking in a lot of protein shakes but the only days in Catholicism which you are not supposed to eat meat is on Fridays. Lent is also not dictated to what you have to do but rather you choose what you want to do to help yourself out. Sometimes it abstaining from unhealthy food, or making an effort to do something everyday such as my studying and working out. You have nobody to answer to but yourself so it is more to build personal character and better your life. I choose a religious aspect to apply but that is not necessary.
