So, yeah-
Standing next to a mirror say 2 foot away and flexing an arm the muscle looks smaller. stand back like 6 feet and it looks bigger- same goes if you stand too close to someone- they appear smaller. Kinda.

So, that thing where you check your dick and stand sideways on, like 2 foot from a mirror and it looks short, then standing like 6 feet away and it "appears" not quite as short.
wtf? Am I the only one to get this or do y`all notice it too?

I dont like standing too close when I check, just makes me feel worse.
Damn my arms are shrinking, musclewise. Gotta work hard on monday, losing strength.

I don't stand in front of mirrors looking at myself.

No, no no..
Thats not what I mean. I think a lot of people `check` themselves to see if they`ve changed (especially pe). It`s like, it`s like I KNOW if my arm is losing or gaining or stable if I check it, it`s just a , I dunno a reassurance thing maybe.
Once or twice I didn`t check and man, I didn`t know or care, ended up getting too much fat and getting an awkward stance that I didn`t notice creep up on my because I didn`t check.

I think it's just perspectives, I learned in Physics last year that the images we see in the mirror are virtual (meaning not real) and appear larger or smaller depending on where you place the object (that's you!). They also reflect back at a different spot but you won't notice because the reflected virtual image is intercepted by your eyes. I could dust of my notes and give you some numbers if you wish.

Yes, actually that does sound intriguing..
I did wonder about the angle thing too- the mirror being vertical and then the images being above, below or to the side of the eyes seems like it MIGHT change the image seen?

Mirrors can be differ' try taking a picture or cam your self. :cool

Well if the image is upside down the the virtual image is rightside up, which is then reflected and reversed by your eyes. The position it is to your eyes matters very little.

I was thinking more the angle-
since the mirror sees only vertical- like if you tilt the mirror it`ll give you a different perspective and image. Wether you look up or down or straight on I dont think the mirror image changes much, wheras if you do the same without the mirror your viewed object changes more.
(just a theory I know I could be way off).

i`m just thinking of the dynamics of viewing a 3D object in 2D image as opposed to a 3D object in 3D as an object.
See what I mean? Maybe i need to explain better.

HMM, actually my thought process and reasoning there might be fundamentally flawed. But does anyone see what I was trying to say?

First off, if you tilt the image you'll have a funhouse mirror that will be way off. Were you reading when I said that the angle does count and can give a different virtual image?

What did you mean by the second part?

The virtual image is neither 2d or 3d, but at a certain distance, I will crunch for you later, the object and the vertual image are one in the same size.

That was the first and last time you said "angle". I miss something?

Think about refraction my friend. If you look hard enough in some mirrors you can see two images...
