View Full Version : Buying L-arginine for the first time

I've decided to finally take the plunge and give L-arginine and L-ornithine a try. I've never taking suppliments before, so I don't really know what to expect. Rather than go in to a health shop I'm gonna buy them over the internet (btw, what's a reasonable postage charge for this kinda stuff - if any at all). The one's I'm looking at (not sure if I'm allowed to say the name?) are £9.99 for 45 capsules. Is this reasonable or should I look around more?

Basically, I'm asking about prices and about what sort of benefits to look for and whether it's worth the money. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated guys

Some can be a lot more expensive than others, they are quite expensive.
GNC and such charge a LOT (too much imo) for instance.
I think L-Arginine is cheaper than L-Ornithine.
Mixture I`m not sure.

50 caps @ 500mg L-Arginine £3.99
No L-Ornithine there though.

You can say the brand, I've done that several times too. Difficult to know if the price is reasonable before knowing how much L-Arg and L-Orn is there in each capsule... more info please.

Those ones ("Slim Nite" - http://www.burstingwithhealth.co.uk/acatalog/Health_Products_Slimmers_Supplements_2.html) didn't say how much they contained, only that it was 45 capsules for £9.99. The ones that ss linked to seem better. Do the advertised prices usually include shipping? They don't seem to mention it.

Damn, I thought they used to have more of those amino`s than that. Sorry.

Remember, You should be taking 3g of Arginine and 1,5g of Ornithine daily for noticeable effects. Avoid those weird health sites, they always overprize their products... look for body building sites and You'll find something cheaper.

One of the sites said "After the age of around 21, your natural Growth Hormone levels start to dramatically reduce". Does this mean that I don't actually need extra arginine for another year or two?

You're around 21.

So the extra arginine would benefit me? I won't have to worry about overdosing on it or anything like that? I've heard that some scientists now think that getting too many vitamins per day can be bad for you. Is it the same with these kind of things?

Dunno.

Look for tablets or capsules that have at least 500mg of L-Arginine per cap or tab. Also look for combination with L-orithine in a ratio of 2:1 L-Arg:L-Orithine.
If you can find a complete supplement with all the aminos would be even better, but those are a bit pricey and are usually in the form of protein shakes.

I hope I'm not spamming. Here http://synergy4life.com/proargi_9.html is supposedly the best L-Arginine supplement on the market. Its patented and I wish I could afford it. But if you guys can then go for it. But even if you can't afford it' just follow the links and references from this site because theres some good scientific information there.

No, not the same thing, amino acids aren't vitamins. 3g of Arginine daily should be safe to take for long time periods, just as small enough doses of vitamins are safe too. Anything is dangerous in too big doses, even water... but 3g daily should be ok.

Most of the ones I've looked at contain 500mg. So should I be taking more than one of these capsules per day?

Bobo
1st December 2005, 03:11 PM
Yep, six capsules daily should give noticeable effects (and is safe to take IF there's nothing else than Arginine in the capsules). Those 45 capsules won't last too long, search some body building sites and order a proper supply somewhere.

You're probably better off spreading 6 500ml caps over a day than gobbling the lot at once.

why are we discussing L-arginine on a PE site?

Bobo
1st December 2005, 11:58 PM
For example:

- it's tissue healing abilities (GH effect)
- gives more goo to shoot...
- boosts the nitric oxide levels that are important in getting an erection.

uiuc_2008

so, should you use this while you PE? and what do you mean more goo to shoot? do you mean more cum when you ejaculate?

zeolite
2nd December 2005, 04:01 PM
and what do you mean more goo to shoot? do you mean more cum when you ejaculate?Yes he does

I'm gonna be taking a few weeks break from PE over Christmas because I'll be staying with my parents for the holidays aswell as catching up with all my old friends, which will make finding time (and privacy) for PE more difficult. I'll definitely try some L-arginine when I get back into PE in January, but I figure that if I'm only going to spend the next week or two PE'ing it's probably better to wait until I get back into a regular routine for starting to take it. Thanks for all your help guys.

this is a weird question:
will l'arginine affect the taste of your goo, has anyone that has been on it for a while ever had that become an issue. i just want to avoid any awkward conversations with the lady friend, i'm keeping pe a secret from her (and everyone else i know)

I don't think taking l-arginine would change the taste and even if it did i doubt it would be that noticeable.

I hope everyone else you know aren't tasting your cum

I think your diet is supposed to have some effect on the taste. But if the capsules don't taste of anything much to begin with then (imho) it's unlikely that they will have much effect.

Spike

I'm not sure anyone here will admit to knowing what cum tastes like in the first place, let alone make comparisons with added L-Arginine.

Godma mentioned that pineapple juice gives a more pleasant taste.

yeah i definetly wasn't asking anyone to do a taste test for me. pineapple juice huh? thats a good juice.

I buy L-arginine and L-ornithine in powder form from www.bodybuilding.com (http://www.bodybuilding.com) and use it to supplement my training taking it on an empty stomach before bed 5 nights a week sun-thurs. Works out cheapest that way i find. I dissolve 10g L-arginine and 5g L-ornithine in water completely to help it get into my system better. No side effects whatsoever from that dosage and results have been great.
On the taste front its pretty rank so i cant imagine it's going to make your cum taste any better, probably worse or just the same as it was!

CSX what kind of training do you do and how long have you been taking the supplements?

I'm in MMA and i train 5-6 days per week. First started taking L-arginine on its own about 3 years ago in smaller doses and when i turned 23 7 months ago i moved to higher doses also including L-ornithine.
I'd suggest to anyone that's interested in L-arginine to read through this website http://www.arginineresearch.com/index.htm It has a lot of information on what doses to take for your purpose of using L-arginine. The dosages for athletes are towards the bottom of the clinical research page. It also has a lot of very good sexual health information.

To answer Jones' question the best time to take these supplements is right before you go to bed on an empty stomach(don't eat at least 2 hours before bed). This means there is nothing else in your system to conflict with the processing of these supplements(which other amino acids do). I find its also good to stop any unnecessary snacking at night.

Any other questions i'm more than happy to answer.:)

I find its also good to stop any unnecessary snacking at night.I would have thought that would depend on your body type - for an ectomorph, snacking before bed shouldn't be so much of a problem.

True, my flatmate is an ectomorph and he's forever eating a load of shite and never puts any fat on. If what you're eating before bed is part of a balanced diet it shouldnt be a problem anyway. For me i always sleep better when i don't eat before bed, anything i do eat before bed is usually excess and unnecessary and is just for the sake of eating so isnt good for my diet. Also after taking my supplements before i go to bed i always get a really sound deep sleep. If im not putting something in my system thats beneficial overnight id rather leave it out.
