View Full Version : How bloody slow is CC right now?

The Big Banana
7th November 2005, 06:10 AM
Everytime I load a page or post it takes about a month to finish.

MagnumXL
7th November 2005, 06:46 AM
Its you not cc. Im running bittorrent right now and im getting fine speeds on CC.

The Big Banana
7th November 2005, 06:56 AM
Nah, I was running other things as well, everything was working except CC. Its fine now though.

Spike
7th November 2005, 07:06 AM
It was running slow, it's taken about 3 minutes to get here. Probably because we're on a shared-server and some arseholes have started work and want to read their emails.

MagnumXL
7th November 2005, 07:07 AM
Lol I have been getting awesome speeds. Woohoo for me! :puke:

Spike
7th November 2005, 07:15 AM
Seems better now. Last week it had bouts of crawling along.

The Big Banana
7th November 2005, 07:21 AM
Whos hosting the forum?

Spike
7th November 2005, 07:25 AM
No idea.

Matt
7th November 2005, 07:38 AM
Guys, if we could raise some money for it, I'd be happy to put CC on a dedicated server, but I'm not sure we'd be able to get enough.

It pisses me off when it goes slow. :(

The Big Banana
7th November 2005, 07:45 AM
Just checked netcraft and it looks like youre on the same host as spamassassin. That probably gets hammered whenever they update. I'm just having a whinge though, shouldnt really complain when this is a free forum.

Spike
7th November 2005, 07:51 AM
It's been fine for months, just last week I noticed some slow downs.

Probably not worth it - the slow downs only affect about 6 people.

The Big Banana
7th November 2005, 07:56 AM
HEY! Weve got 7 people on here right now.

wern
7th November 2005, 07:58 AM
most of us are regulars too, so that's something. We can really filth this place up now

Spike
7th November 2005, 12:14 PM
God, it's running trough treacle again, about 5 mins to get from the main page into Non-PE and get to reply. This must be what dial-up feels like.

BIGOKE
7th November 2005, 12:30 PM
Running frigging slowly and most of my posts got stuck and I had to close them. Fucken hell.

Spike
7th November 2005, 02:02 PM
And 14 posts shy of an avatar, what a shame.

Bobo
7th November 2005, 06:31 PM
The earth is safe, CC is working just fine now. When I logged in it was slow as hell and I almost killed everyone. You're safe now... for now. :x

Bobo
7th November 2005, 06:38 PM
No, sorry... I'll take that back. Slow as hell again.

YOU'RE MESSING WITH THE WRONG GUY!!!!

7th November 2005, 09:10 PM
Its better now :mrgreen

Spike
7th November 2005, 09:11 PM
It got better 1 minute after posting the above - it just 15 took minutes to do it. :?

BIGOKE
8th November 2005, 05:04 AM
And 14 posts shy of an avatar, what a shame.
Tell me about it! 2 days to make 22 posts, fuck fuck fuck err I feel better now. :mrgreen

Matt
8th November 2005, 11:36 AM
ive emailed the host about it.

'TheBugKahuna'
8th November 2005, 12:42 PM
How much money do you need to buy a server, Matt? Do you have to pay a monthly bill too?

Spike
8th November 2005, 01:04 PM
Shared-Hosting should be OK for CC. It's been OK since March. Either the web company are upgrading/fucking things up or we're sharing with some script heavy arseholes. But servers are supposed to be balanced so nobody gets to dominate the system.

Dedicated-hosting means you pay more each month to get a server all to ourselves.

Or if you have a static IP then you can turn your home PC into a web-server by installing a LAMP or WAMP and just leave it on 24/7.

Shane_Bos
8th November 2005, 06:59 PM
Matt, give us some figures. Ive got no idea how much it would be but im sure if the problem persists, people would donate some sort of contribution to fix it. I know i would.

Spike
8th November 2005, 08:12 PM
I wouldn't.

Bobo
8th November 2005, 08:25 PM
Well, with CC being this slow I can't read all of the posts meaning I won't be doing my moderator duties. Something must be done, this won't work.

MagnumXL
8th November 2005, 09:29 PM
Yeah I expirienced my first slow down yesterday. BLOODY SLOW! <- lol coming from an American.

Spike
8th November 2005, 10:03 PM
It must be slooooooowwwww now, considering there are 14 regs and only 2 new posts.

Only took 4 minutes to get the reply box up. Time now is 11:01 according the clock at the bottom.

Officespace2801
8th November 2005, 10:08 PM
It's been a bit slow for me. Not enough for me to support the idea of a private server, but just enough to be obnoxious.

Matt
8th November 2005, 11:34 PM
Well I'm going to have to make some money off it soon (wether it be by advertising or something) to renew the Vbulletin software (can't remember how much it is) maybe hundred dollars or something like that, maybe less maybe more.

With regard to the server, I've emailed them... No reply as of yet.

A dedicated box would be closer to 1k - 2k a year, a bit excessive for our needs to be honest, but the only way to guarantee good speeds. I don't expect for one minute we could get that much sorted.

If we didn't fill our forums with filth, and swearing and stuff I maybe could ahve put adsense on here from google, that would have paid for it.

Valk
8th November 2005, 11:59 PM
Matt, your baby is dying a slow dead...

Maybe we should wait if this sorts itself out. (and ofcourse see what the host has to say about it)
It could be a big wave in a normally calm ocean, and everything will turn to normal once the wave is gone.

I have a couple of questions to you though:

1) Why new software already? The whole reason for this new board was a change in software, so isnt it a bit soon?

2) How much does CC cost per month?

hugh g rection
9th November 2005, 07:06 AM
Matt I would be very unhappy to see this site have issues because of server issues. That having been said, I haven't even been able to get on and reply 95% of the time the last two days. Not good sir, not good.

The Big Banana
9th November 2005, 07:23 AM
Its bad right now. Oh well.

Spike
9th November 2005, 07:42 AM
Actually for me it's running fine right now.

Might have spoken too soon though.

The Big Banana
9th November 2005, 07:54 AM
Yeah, Its running well again now. It was bad for about 45 mins before I posted that.

Bobo
9th November 2005, 08:03 AM
Yep, running just fine now, but it's been like that on and off... it wouldn't surprise me if it slows down again in a few minutes.

Spike
9th November 2005, 08:17 AM
Why aren't you working?

Or are you?

Matt
9th November 2005, 08:21 AM
1) Why new software already? The whole reason for this new board was a change in software, so isnt it a bit soon?

2) How much does CC cost per month?

1. Not new software. The license for Vbulletin is yearly. I just looked and I can't remember if I bought the owned version or the leased one, so I will probably only have to pay $30 if it was the owned one. No probs.

2. Don't know for sure cos I got other shit on the same account but with the vbulletin fees, hosting and bandwidth, currently approximately $30 ish per month.

Matt
9th November 2005, 08:21 AM
Working fine at the minute, hopefully was just a huge wave in a normally calm ocean.

Bobo
9th November 2005, 08:31 AM
Why aren't you working?

Or are you?
 Well, yes and no. I've got some fever (38,4C) and an headache from hell, so I decided to stay at home today. I have loads of things I can do from home via email, and I've written about ten long emails already this morning. My assistant is taking care of the office.

BTW, CC slowed down again. :x

Spike
9th November 2005, 08:47 AM
Well I'm going to have to make some money off it soon (wether it be by advertising

A PayPal Donate button would be simple to do - and who know's someone might press it.

What about affiliate schemes like Amazon - Matt's Top 10 books, music, movies , games etc.

If we didn't fill our forums with filth, and swearing and stuff I maybe could ahve put adsense on here from google, that would have paid for it.

What's the problem with adsense & filth?

What's the problem with adsense & filth?

Google don't allow swearing or filth so I can't do that... If I knew how to put a banner script on here I could put some clearly labelled advertising banners at the top of the page. That would be best but I don't know how to do it.

Officespace2801
9th November 2005, 09:50 PM
It seems to be working a lot better for me now too. So maybe it was just a rough point.

Still though, if you have to pay $30 a year to renew your Vbulletin license, I wouldn't mind chipping in $5 through paypal or something to help keep this site up and running.

ThirdLeg
9th November 2005, 10:02 PM
running really good right now been the first time in a week when it hasnt taken me 30 minutes to post something yey. :mrgreen

Spike
9th November 2005, 11:43 PM
If I knew how to put a banner script on here

I'll look into it now I'm a PHP expert. :P

Valk
9th November 2005, 11:55 PM
Cant we just do a couple donations?
Or cant you just give Spike a very seductive smile?

One banner could lead to another and then to another and before
you know it we have dozens of blinking banners.

BIGOKE
10th November 2005, 04:49 AM
CC is working properly again. YIPPEE! :D

Matt

Mate if you find a way that'd be great!

It would be only ONE banner guys but it would change every time you refreshed. Not a problem for anybody, just hopefully would make a little money.

Bobo
10th November 2005, 01:02 PM
I hope it won't jeopardize CC's credibility, because the policy of "not selling anything" is a strong argument when trying to convince the newbies about natural PE and our intentions towards them. Of course anything that must be done to keep CC alive must be done, but I'd hate it if this would have a negative effect on our credibility. Just my humble opinion... it's a big change in CC policy and I think this point had to be said.

If we will have PE-related advertisement here, how can I do this (http://www.cheekycherry.com/ccforums/showthread.php?t=1711) in the future?

...or this (http://www.cheekycherry.com/ccforums/showthread.php?t=1708) (four posts down, second paragraph).

Valk
10th November 2005, 02:41 PM
It looks like CC doesnt want gets plastered by banners either, cause its seems to be running fine now. :D

Matt
10th November 2005, 10:11 PM
Well I waited almost 3 days for a support response (fucking terrible) and here it is:

"You should not be seeing this problem anymore.

--tim"

Yeah, thanks a fuckin bunch Tim. What exactly WAS the problem? :?

ArTee63
10th November 2005, 11:09 PM

I bet Tim was downloading a shitload of gay porn blocking the bandwidth with his crap. Now he has enough for a while. Just a theory. :D

Holyness here.

Tmac 1 LeBron 23
11th November 2005, 11:00 PM
It's running well for me, you use broadband right TBB? You might been surfing or downloading too many files so if your over your download limit you go back to dial-up speed :neut: sucks but it recharges every month, or your computer just needs a good restart or even your router. If you have dial-up then get a broadband.

The Big Banana
11th November 2005, 11:05 PM
Its fine now Tmac, back then there was a problem. If you read the whole thread it explains that we're on a shared server and apparently someone was eating our bandwidth.

Yeah, but it's still scary when it happens.

Matt
14th November 2005, 03:12 PM
