"Son, if you work hard enough, you can become anything you want to be in life."

Freedom isnt good. Freedom brings choices and too many choices will fuck you up. These days, adolescents are struggling with what they want to do in life. There are so many options, so many choices you can make. This can become too much and depress you.
Then there is this constant strive for hapiness. We ultimately want to be in a permanent state of happiness. But this desire to be/get happy only puts more emphasis on your current state: The state of unhappiness, because if you strive to be happy then you are not happy at the moment, right?
We all think we are entitled on a grand life. We deserve it! But although striving can be a great thing, if your demands arent met, the only thing you will find at the end of the rainbow, is frustration.
This nation is spoiled...

True, it would be easy to be born on a farm, and to continue the work of Your father. Well, it would be hard work, but You wouldn't have to stress out about the choices You made because there aren't any. It isn't the wide variety of choices that makes us stress out, it's because we always think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, we're almost never pleased with hour choices. Many people waste their lives dreaming of some sort of dream world happiness while they could easily be happy with what they have. We should learn to stop and look around, plenty of reasons to be happy about. We all have reasons to be happy, only we're too often blind to see them, blinded by the shine of the dreams we will propably never reach.

This is a good point,
sometimes i hate all the choices- i find it hard to make choices for fear of making the `wrong one`.
many choices can make one procrastinate and less free.
its weird.

Have you ever heard about the criminals who commit crimes with the intention of getting caught and going to prison. They become used to the lifestyle of prison and eventually they only feel free from responsibility when their freedom is taken away.

They become used to the lifestyle of prison

At £2000 a week it should be pretty cushy - be cheaper to send them to Torremolinos for a holiday.
