I'm a student and I live in an 8 bedroom house (with all students). I lived in the same house last year but with mostly different people. It was only me and two other guys that wanted to stay in the same house this year aswell. We managed to find a group of five other people we knew to share the house with us, since of course the three of us could not afford the rent on an 8 bedroom house by ourselves.
But then the guy who was going to be in the room next to mine (who was also my best friend at uni) failed all his exams and is now starting a different course at a different university. At the time when the exam results came out the rest of us had gone home for the Summer. When he found out he was not going to be staying at our uni, he advertised his room as available for sub-letting. He found someone to take over his old room but since the rest of us were back home we couldn't meet this other guy before he signed the contract. The first time I met him was about a week before term started and he moved in. Whenever I talk to this guy he seems really nice. He's a good laugh and always friendly with everyone. There's just one problem... he comes home drunk several nights a week (which I don't have a problem with) but then he either plays his "music" (he's a hip-hop DJ) or starts watching a film with his TV on loudly.
I've tried speaking to him about it and he always seems very apologetic and turns the noise down straight away. But then a day or two later he goes and does it again. One night he put music on at 2 in the morning. I asked him to turn it down and he did. Then at 4am, just after I have drifted back off to sleep, he starts watching a film. By that point I'm so mad that I figure that if I bang on his door again that night I'm so pissed off that one of us is going to end up in hospital. This guy's huge, so it would probably be me! Because of the shape of our house, my room is the only one that is affected by his noise. All my housemates seem to like this guy (I get on with him aswell, during the daytime) and I don't want to try and turn them all against him, but it really has got to the stage where either me or him has to go. In one week the number of hours' sleep I got only just made it into double figures!
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Another one of my housemates is dropping out (teenage depression type stuff). Her room is the other end of the house :D :D :D
The problems would be:
1) finding someone to take over the rent of my room (all of the rooms are rented individually from the land-lord)
2) the guilt of having someone else live next to this insomniac.
Guys, this really is driving me crazy! It's 2:15am now... I've been woken up and have resorted to channelling all my frustartions onto this forum. I'm sorry for writing such a long message but I haven't slept properly in ages. I don't know how evident my anger is in this message but I desperately need ANY ADVICE about what I should do. Thanks guys
